Dreaming 04:15
In a dream, on empty streets, I walk alone. Street lamp lights push back relentless dark From deep within a vision bursts and startles me. Visions in darkness. Visions in darkness. Brilliant but somehow dark. Visions in darkness. Real but eluding touch. Visions in darkness. I have become a bird of prey soaring high. Cloud veiled moon illuminates the prairie snow. Far below a tiny mouse looks up at me. Power and weakness. Power and weakness dissolve into nothing at all. When seen as two parts of an ever-evolving one. Power and weakness From a dream I awaken next to you. Moonlight falls across your sleeping face. From deep within emotion stirs and rises high. Awakened by silence. Silence awakens love hiding deep within Silence awakens love to be free again Silence awakens.

For just 3 minutes I could sing you a song and sing it from the heart. Not worry if I sing in perfect pitch or play each chord just right. For just 3 minutes I look up from the road and see where it’s taken me Look at all this baggage I’ve got figure out what I need to keep. Today is the day to make the minutes count And not carry on about how these minutes ran away Today is the day I take a moment to be. I said today is the day to take a second to see Just what this life means to me. For just 3 minutes watch the river flow. See it finds it’s way ‘round rocks and trees and on to the sea by the laws of gravity. For just three minutes put my worries aside. I take your hand in mine Look back at the past and see no matter what, it all turned out just fine. Today is the day to make the minutes count And not carry on about how these minutes ran away.... Today is the day I take a moment to be. I said today is the day to take a second to see Just what this life means to me. INSTRUMENTAL Today is the day to make the minutes count And not carry on about how these minutes ran away.... Today is the day I take a moment to be. I said today is the day to take a second to see Just what this life means to me. Just what this life means to me. Just what this life means to me.

Heart Song 03:17
My eyes open slowly in the morning. Radiant sun breathes warmth in my room. Love of my life breathes so slowly. Her beautiful face sets my soul singing… Singing Doot n Doot n doo…. Sweat pours from the father’s brow. She’s been here in labour 18 long hours. Now a little baby girl has just been born. The family celebrates love’s fire glowing. Singing Doot n Doot n doo…. Nervous looking guy at the airport gate. If he holds those flowers any tighter he’s gonnna crush them. They see each other but she is trapped in customs. All she’s got to declare is in her heart song. Singing Doot n Doot n doo…. Here we are a bunch of friends together. Leaving life’s burdens on the doorstep. Let’s make a little magic that will lighten our hearts. Learn this little tune and sing along. Singing Doot n Doot n doo….

What do you do when you’re angry, hands tremble in rage. Feel like the world’s gone crazy, you’re a lion just pacing the cage. What do you do when you’re tired, of fixing everything that is broke? You’re trying to find that old fire, a miracle or some kind of hope. Some people pray to Jesus. Some ease their mind with drink. Some will run, some will tell us how to think. But Baby... I lean on you. Can’t promise I’ll act like Angel, when demons sneak in the back door. They’ll bring it all back, all the crap from the past, stabbing my soul to the core. Sometimes I feel I can take it. Sometimes, blindsided, I crash. Sometimes I feel like I made it, but find that it’s still a big mess. Some people use meditation. Some doctors swear by medication. Some will seek, a little peace in copulation But Baby, I lean on you. Don’t know why you hung on. Don’t know why you stayed. Just know that I’m so grateful that I could lean on you. What do I do when I’m angry, hands tremble in rage. Feel like the world’s gone crazy, I’m a lion just pacing the cage. What do I do when I’m tired, of fixing everything that I broke? I’m trying to find that old fire, a miracle or some kind of hope. Baby I lean on you. Baby I lean on You Don’t know if it’s fair but I'm so glad you're there Baby I lean on you.

All her life she was told she would fail. So it hurt so much more when she fell But a voice in her soul told her “ Just push on through, and soon your big dreams will come true “ Faith was hard to find in her soul, when mountains made her feel small. Oh how sweet at the long journey’s end to know she gave more than her all . Every morning he went off to work never minding his boss was a jerk. His family came first. Expected no lucky breaks knowing so much was at stake .... Hope was hard to find in his heart. Like a grain of sand he felt small Oh how sweet at the long journey’s end to know he gave more than his all You know a life that matters doesn’t happen by chance. It’s not a matter of circumstance. It’s by reaching beyond your grasp When we falter, when we feel weak. When nobody hears when you speak. Go back to the things that impassion your soul And please don’t forget to just breathe. Love can be hard to find in your heart. Down on your knees you crawl But oh how sweet at the long journey’s end to know you gave more than your all. But oh how sweet at the long journey’s end to know you gave more than your all.

My Lady and me Go together like the shore and the sea Water flooding in. Sand castles swept away in the tide. My lady and me Go together like the wind in the trees Air and leaves encounter. Wind and bough dance softly in the sun ( Instrumental ) My lady and me Go together like the sweet harmony Interwoven notes set free Singing words of joy in the sun

Went On Home 03:50
Climbed high in the mountains. Thought I heard God’s voice in the breeze. But when I turned around there was nothing there But this narrow path winding up from the trees So I went on home went on home. Saw a world of wonders, but I went on home. I haven’t seen anything that felt as true as going home to be close to you Worked a long while in the desert. Thought the desert people wanted cool cool shade. But when I turned around, it was water they sought. I had nothing to give and nothing to trade. So I went on home went on home. Saw a world of wonders, but I went on home. I haven’t seen anything that felt as true as going home to be close to you Pushed my canoe into the river. A summer to find my place in time. And as the river flowed, the secret it showed : Our place in time cannot be defined So I went on home went on home. Saw a world of wonders, but I went on home. I haven’t seen anything that felt as true as going home to be close to you ^ In empty rooms I wrote my songs. Hoping to share a common point of view. Wondered if I sing, would it mean anything But when the songs were done, I came home to you So I went on home went on home. Saw a world of wonders, but I went on home. I haven’t seen anything that felt as true as going home to be close to you as going home to be close to you

Looking up at the mountains. They seem etched on eternity. But gentle rain and years return the mountains to the sea. Warm your face in the sunshine. Hear the birds in the trees. Waste of time to be worried about all those you want to appease. You are created with love in your heart and so you are not like anyone else. So discover yourself. Discover the family of man and I will discover me with you. ( Instrumental ) Leaves in the breeze are dancing. Celebrate this summer day. Let go of the things you were made to believe Today we find a new way ( Instrumental ) We are created with love in our hearts and so you are much like everyone else. So discover yourself. Discover the family of man and I will discover me with you. You are flowing and growing, sorrowing and laughing because of people you love and people you hate. They’re all people who will help you….. to discover yourself. Discover the family of man. and you will discover me with you. ( Instrumental )

Wheels 04:43
Morning fog filters the rising sun as I stare, clear eyed, into white circle of light. Purest light of dawn reminds me of larger cycles which have eluded my night narrowed vision Now I see wheels within wheels. New light grows out of darkness. Are these collisions of circumstance or designs too huge to comprehend In these wheels within wheels ? The precision of seasonal cycles pulse the wheelworks of nature through time. Yet, in abhorrent arrogance we seem to be so primitive. Dazzled by shiny trinkets and blinded to these wheels within wheels. Treasures within poverty. Are these collisions of circumstance or designs too huge to comprehend in these wheels within wheels ? In the vortex wheel of chaos, we’re swept along like leaves in fall. In our fear of so much we can‘t control, open hands are soon withdrawn. Where flood, and fire and storms destroy, time and nature soon reveal wheels of pain within wheels that heal. Wheels of earth within wheels of sky. Face thrust upward in baptism of rain. Lightning looks like cracks in this dark cacoon of sky. Oh brilliant light, from somewhere far beyond, brings tears of joy that fall into pools of rain at my feet Forming wheels within wheels. Moving through all time. Sparks from collisions of circumstance swirl in designs too huge to comprehend In these wheels within wheels.

Moonrise 04:09
See the moon rising. Burning so bright in the darkest night See the moon rising. Burning so bright in the darkest night Peaceful light, pierce my heart and soul See the moon rising. Burning so bright in the darkest night See the moon rising. Burning so bright in the darkest night Peaceful light, cleanse my heart and soul ( Instrumental ) See the moon rising. Burning so bright in the darkest night See the moon rising. Burning so bright in the darkest night Peaceful light, fill my heart and soul

4 am, I’m driving. Tired. Dropped my kids along the way. Man we had a good time. Gone too fast. But now I just want to sleep These last miles seem to last forever. Alone , it’s hard to stay awake. The road was long and sometimes hard and rough. But now I just want to sleep I’ve nothing left to give. Gave it all along the way. Got us lost but we found our way. Of all the beauty seen and all the stories made My family shone brighter than it all ( Instrumental ) Edge of dawn on the horizon One more mile and I’ll be home. No thought about tomorrow's worries ‘cause now I just want to sleep

Review - By David Morrison
...So, what of Paul’s new offering? Well, not that he’s ever sounded anything but laid-back sonically - so it’s still acoustic, gentle, and a tad whimsical – there does seem to be a slightly new compositional approach at play. For the first time, whether intentional or not there are echoes of Laurel Canyon influences – Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, James Taylor; Crosby, Stills & Nash et al – dwelling in the dreamy, sun-kissed arrangements. This is particularly evident on the opening cut, Dreaming, and – Paul is ever the romantic – on 'My Lady and Me'. Extraordinarily, although knowing him as I do I doubt he’ll have heard it, the latter is reflective of the hazy grooviness of Black Sabbath’s Planet Caravan, being one of their very few acoustic or quieter tracks. "My lady and me go together like the shore and the sea," Paul croons, sounding for all the world like classic America (the band), and later adding a really neat 95-second keyboard solo to add to the mellow vibes.

Other highlights include a nice, though brief shuffle of an instrumental entitled "How We Used to Dance", the cheeky "Heart Song" with its irresistible "Doot doot doot doot doot-doo-doo" chorus, and the unabashedly romantic, though openly honest lyric of "I Lean on You", where Paul admits to certain failings...

One element of the creation of Today is the Day that’ll have put Paul’s mind at ease is that he was surrounded by regular collaborators, friends all and principally stablemates from his label, The Hermit’s Music. The presence of his frequent creative partner, and producer, Dave Kilbank, looms large with various instruments on all but three tracks, and it’s Dave that Paul credits with excellence in the mixing and mastering the album.

A lovely collection of songs, then, promoting the overarching theme of not letting life pass you by.
