about

A fun fictional tale of a pirate and his parrot.... ( just to prove that I DO, in fact, have a sense of humor :)

THE PIRATE'S PARROT - Lyrics and Music (c) Paul Bezooyen

Oh I see his leg of birch has caused
your guts to twist and lurch
When he tips his hat with a rusty hook
I see your frightened look
And the patch he wears o’er his left eye
makes you look away and wonder why
He can still dance and raise a glass
and wink at the pretty girls
Won’t you stay and drink some ale.
Come listen to my tale.

Long ago in a southern sea
he spied the finest parrot that you ever did see
And so for months he schemed of ways
to lure the bird to his wicker cage
Then one day she took the bait.
It all went wrong and it sealed his fate.
When he danced for joy he fell overboard,
and a shark bit off his leg
La dee dah dee dah dee day......
a shark bit off his leg

Months flew by and the captain’s leg
was now replaced with a wooden peg
Then one day to his surprise
the parrot spoke up and said “Captain Aye”
In disbelief to the cage he creeped
as the bird chattered on about charts and reefs
The Captain’s face pressed near the cage
and the parrot pecked out his eye
La dee dah dee dah dee day......
the parrot pecked out his eye.

The Queen of course was quite appalled
that the captains eye and leg were false
She sent the admiral to take command
of his ship and his loyal crew
But the crew stood by the captain’s side.
He’d shown them honor trust and pride.
They fought and won but the captains hand
was severed from his arm
La dee dah dee dah dee day...... was severed from his arm.

So when you’re feeling down and blue,
mad about what the world’s done to you.
Remember the pirate and his feathered friend
and the crap that he endured
Storms and gales will come and go.
Don’t wallow in the mud. Just let it go
He could still dance and raise a glass,
and wink at the pretty girls
La dee dah dee dah dee day,
Wink at the pretty girls.
